This cookbook fills missing company, people, and product fields with Gemini and Parallel Web Search, using Google's Python SDK and Pydantic. Two model calls produce a typed record with citations, and a short Python check confirms identity, provenance, and coverage before you store it.
You have a list of companies. Each row has a name and a website, and not much else. You need the CEO, the headquarters, and the founding year, and you need to know where each fact came from so someone can check it later.
This cookbook fills those gaps with Gemini and Parallel Web Search, using Google's own Python SDK and Pydantic. Since Parallel became a grounding provider on Gemini Enterprise[Parallel became a grounding provider on Gemini Enterprise](/blog/google-cloud-partnership), you can attach parallel_ai_search to a Gemini request the same way you'd attach any other tool. Gemini searches the web through Parallel and hands back an answer with source metadata. Two model calls and a few lines of Python turn that into a typed record your application can store.
View the full cookbook on GitHub[cookbook on GitHub](https://github.com/parallel-web/parallel-cookbook/tree/main/python-recipes/gemini_ai_demo).
Here's the company result from a run on September 10, 2026. The input was the first two rows. Everything else came from the web, with a source attached to each fact.
| Field | Before | After | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Company | Anthropic | Anthropic | Input |
| Website | anthropic.com | anthropic.com | Input |
| CEO | Missing | Dario Amodei | highperformr.ai |
| Headquarters | Missing | San Francisco, California, United States | highperformr.ai |
| Founded | Missing | 2021 | en.wikipedia.org |
The same code, with a different schema and a different question, filled in a title, employer, and location for a person, and a category, release date, and list price for a product.
The pipeline is two Gemini calls with different jobs, followed by a Python check.
We split research from extraction on purpose so each call has one job. With no tool on the second call and an instruction to use only the evidence provided, Gemini has less room to fill gaps from memory, and the Python checks reject any citation URL the first call didn't retrieve. Neither step proves that a cited page supports the fact next to it. The verification section below covers that gap.
You need Python 3.10 or later, a Google Cloud project with billing and the aiplatform.googleapis.com API enabled, and application default credentials from gcloud auth application-default login. For Parallel you need either an API key from platform.parallel.ai[platform.parallel.ai](https://platform.parallel.ai) or a Parallel Web Search subscription on Google Cloud Marketplace[Parallel Web Search subscription on Google Cloud Marketplace](https://console.cloud.google.com/marketplace/product/parallel-web-systems-public/parallel-web-systems) attached to the project's billing account. With a Marketplace subscription you send no key at all. If both are present, the key wins.

The notebook leaves the optional search settings at their defaults. We'd leave them alone too unless you need to restrict domains or change the result count.
The research question names the company and its domain, lists the fields to find, says which kinds of sources to prefer, and asks for a citation on every fact. Change the numbered list when you want different fields.

The metadata also exposes the queries it ran, which is worth printing while you tune the question. Seeing that the model searched for a quoted street address tells you a lot about how it interpreted "headquarters."
A Pydantic model describes the output. The model copies identity fields from the input. Fact fields are strings with a format in their description and an explicit "unknown" fallback. A list of citations ties each fact to a URL.

An earlier version of this notebook did exactly that.
The last step is plain Python. It confirms the model didn't change the company name or domain, that every citation names a real field on the schema, that every citation URL appears in the source list from the research call, and that every field with a value has at least one citation.

They don't confirm that the cited page supports the value. A citation to an unrelated retrieved page can pass, a source can be stale or wrong, and the model can misread a correct one. The notebook flags this where it prints the record, and we'd keep a human review step anywhere this data drives a decision.
Wrap the three steps in one function that takes a record, a schema, and a question, and the same code enriches any record type.

The question tells Gemini to use the affiliation to disambiguate and to say so if it can't. Lisa Su came back as Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Micro Devices, based in Austin, Texas, with the title and employer cited to AMD's own leadership page.
For a product, the input includes the official product URL so the research has a place to start. The question separates list price from discounts, financing, and trade-in offers, which is where product pricing questions usually go wrong. The Google Pixel 10 Pro came back as a smartphone that went on sale on August 28, 2025 at a base list price of $999.00, cited to the Google Store and the launch announcement.

Three things can show up on a bill: Gemini tokens, Google's per-prompt grounding charge, and Parallel search usage. Parallel usage lands on your Google Cloud invoice with Marketplace or on your Parallel account with your own key. Both paths share a default quota of 200 prompts per minute.
Then swap in one row from your own account list or product catalog. Keep the identity fields you know, describe the missing ones in a schema, write the question, and read the sources before you run the next hundred rows.
