## Key characteristics

- **Open standard:** The MCP project ships [10 official SDKs](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/2026-07-28/sdk), or software development kits, including TypeScript, Python, C#, Go, and Rust.

- **Wide adoption:** As of December 2025, Anthropic reported [more than 10,000 active public MCP servers](https://www.anthropic.com/news/donating-the-model-context-protocol-and-establishing-of-the-agentic-ai-foundation).
